Social Media in Education

Social Media in Education Social Media plays an important role into today’s classroom. Many students have grown up using social media in their day to day lives. Below are three social media resources that could be used to help educators in the classroom. World War II colourized (Facebook):    This resource on Facebook is useful because of its updating of photos of historical significance. World War II colourized is a community of photoshop editors who colorize black and white photographs from World War II. This resource is useful because it allows the user to see World War II events in full color. Because pictures are so important in history, a photo that has been colorized bridges the time gaps and makes people and places in history seem more alive and real. I have used this resource often throughout my classes. Students are engaged and intrigued by the colorized photos which generates more conversation about the topic.   Link https://www.facebook.com/worldwarinc...

Blog Post Module 7

Blog Post Module 7                 Module 7 is focused around Digital Equity in the classroom. This module has helped me understand how digital equity has or will impact my teaching in the following ways. First, it is important to define what digital equity is. Digital Equity is whether or not people can access and effectively use technology in a modern society.   It is important as teachers that we are able to understand what digital equity is and then how it can be applied in the classroom.                 As teachers we must be careful while teaching in the classroom. We want to make sure that we do not allow our preconceived notions of people to affect our effects.   We as teachers must show interest in the students, while challenging our own “blind spots”. A “blind spot” is part of our unconscious mind that has already m...

Blog Post 3 for Module 6

Blog Post Module 6                 Module Six is focused around student centered assessment in the classroom. This module has helped me to think about student-centered assessment in many different ways. It is important for teachers to think of alternative assessments for students beyond tests and quizzes. If a teacher can assess a student in different ways, then the teacher can be certain of the student’s mastery of the content. A Formative Assessment is defined as a wide variety of methods that teachers use to assess student understanding of the content.   As teachers, we need to be focused around our students’ passions and learning styles they bring into our classroom.   A student’s background and experiences can play an important part in their learning. While there are multiple ways a teacher can use assessment tools in their classroom, one straightforward way is to have one on one conversations ...

Blog Post 2 Curriculum Frameworks

Blog Post 2 Curriculum Frameworks                 Module 2 of our class dealt with Curriculum Frameworks within the modern classroom. This module has helped me connect Bloom’s Taxonomy to 21 st -century skills in the two following ways.                  The first curriculum framework is Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy. This framework is an expansion upon Dr. Benjamin Bloom’s Taxonomy first created in 1956. Dr. Bloom created this framework to help educators better understand how to educate their students. This modern digital taxonomy was updated in the late 1990s in order to be more relevant to the 21 st century. Bloom’s Taxonomy has often been shown as a pyramid with each step of the pyramid being a more complex level of cognitive thinking.                   Fro...

Blog Post 1: Technology Integration Frameworks

Module 1 of our class dealt with Technology Integration Frameworks within the modern classroom.  These frameworks are made up of four different systems. This module has helped me understand how the various Technology Integration Frameworks will improve the lessons I will present in the future, in the following ways. The first framework is the Standards for Technology Integration, designed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The ISTE Standards are built around seven points as follows. By the end of their education, students should have become Empowered Learners, Digital Citizens, Knowledge Constructors, Innovative Designers, Computational Thinkers, Creative Communicators, and Global Collaborators. These seven points allow for educators to impower their students to leverage modern technology in all of their future endeavors. In the modern classroom, technology is a vital tool for both the students to learn and the teachers to utilize and to teach. The sec...
